
Ukraine’s Ministry of Agrarian Policy forecasts that 30.8 million tons of early grain and leguminous crops will be gathered in 2014, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy the gross yield of grain and leguminous crops is expected to reach 62.135 million tons in 2014, including 30.233 million tons of maize, 21.23 million tons of wheat, 8.32 million tons of barley. Experts also forecast that 210,000 tons of buckwheat will be gathered, which should completely cover the domestic demand for the product, and 372,100 tons of sorghum.
Experts forecast that sunflower production is expected to reach 9.33 million tons in 2014, sugar beets - 13.4 million tons, rapeseed - 2.05 million tons. According to the plans, the yield of potatoes will reach 22.9 million tons and vegetables - 10.3 million tons.
It is important to note that, according to experts, sowing area of grain and leguminous crops will be 16.5 million hectares. Of these, 10.7 million hectares will be used for early crops, 5.2 million hectares for maize, 188,300 hectares for buckwheat, 147,600 hectares for sorghum, and 33.8 hectares for rice. Area under soybean is 1.5 million hectares, sunflower - 4.3 million hectares, sugar beet – 339,800 hectares, potatoes - 1.4 million hectares.
