Record number of family-type children’s homes built last year

In 2013, the government managed to create the largest number of family-type homes (FTCH) since independence. “Today, the development of family forms of raising orphans and children deprived of parental care is a priority for Ukraine. 85% of these children should be covered with these forms of education by the end of the year. We need to create conditions and stop bringing children who do not have medical conditions to foster homes and orphanages, and provide them with all forms of education," Korolevska, Acting Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine, has said, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.

The ministry has set a goal that no child deprived of parental care should get into a foster home this year.

To achieve this goal in 2014, it is planned to actively develop the FTCH network, enhance efforts to promote adoption of children over 5 years old and groups of siblings, and generally organize an information campaign on this issue.

According to analysts of the Ministry, over 15,500 orphans and children deprived of parental care were adopted or transferred to family-type homes during 2013.

Last year, 164 FTCHs were established, while the number of children in them went up by 958 people during the year. As of January 1, 2013, the number of children at FTCH was 4,932 while on January 1, 2014, this figure was already 5,890 which is the best indicator for the last few years.
