In 2013, the population of Ukraine decreased by 113.2 thousand people, first deputy head of the State Statistics Service Vadym Pishcheiko said during a briefing "Socioeconomic situation in Ukraine on the results of 2013," ForUm correspondent reports.

According to Pishcheiko, population of Ukraine continues to decrease. At the same time, he noted that the mortality rate in the country in 2013 remained at the level of the previous year.

According to the State Statistics Service, as of 1 December 2013, the existing population in Ukraine was estimated at 45 439.8 thousand people. Since beginning of the year, the population decreased by 113.2 thousand people.

Birth rate, according to the agency, declined from 11.5 to 11.1 live births per one thousand people. Mortality rate remained at the level of the corresponding period in last year - 14.5%.
At the same time, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine marks the continuing downward trend in mortality before the age of 1 year: from 8.6 deaths per 1000 live births in January - November 2012 to 7.9 over the same period of 2013.
