Ukrainian Armed Forces will not intervene in the conflict situation in the country, defense minister of Ukraine Pavlo Lebedev stated.
The minister stressed that "the army will strictly follow the Constitution and the laws of Ukraine, which clearly specify its role, functions and tasks."
He called offers of some politicians to intervene army in the conflict as a provocation. "It is impossible," Lebedev said.
The defense minister believes that a proposition of President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych to the opposition is a step towards reconciliation. "The president is doing everything to resolve peacefully a very difficult situation in the country."
