A fire in an apartment block in Hrushevsky Street could result in burn-up of the whole residential quarter, spokeswoman for the State Emergency Service of Ukraine Svitlana Vodolaga told ForUm correspondent.

"If the rescuers had not come in time, the entire quarter would have burned. It is an old house with wooden floors," she said.

According to her, rescuers arrived on the scene through the government portal.

"Law enforcers covered rescuers with shields so that our employees managed to do their job," she said.

Vodolaga reported that 40 sq.m of the building in Hrushevsky Street burnt out as a result of fire. There is no threat of building collapse.
