The Government of Ukraine is set to exert maximum efforts for the peaceful settlement of the situation in the center of Kyiv through dialogue, the Foreign Ministry’s statement in connection with the recent events in the capital reads.

"January 19, in Kyiv continued mass rallies of political nature, which the law enforcement bodies of Ukraine offered no resistance to. At the same time, some radical individuals resorted to illegal actions, which require the appropriate response. These illegal acts were committed despite numerous appeals for their termination, including on the part of individual members of opposition forces," statement says.

The Foreign Ministry said that dozens of citizens, including a significant number of law enforcement officers, were injured as a result of clashes.

"In order to end the violence and settle the situation, President Viktor Yanukovych instructed secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Andriy Kliuyev to set up a working group involving representatives of the Cabinet of Ministers and the President’s Administration," the Ministry reminds.

The Foreign Ministry stressed that the Ukrainian government is set to make every effort to settle the situation peacefully through dialogue and hopes that international community will condemn the radical actions, which endanger the lives and health of citizens.
