The Cabinet approved the project of reconstruction of Starobeshevo Thermal Power Plant Unit 12, which is part of the Donbassenergo State Power Supplying Company on January 15. The total project cost is 959.296 million UAH, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.
With the comprehensive reconstruction of Starobeshevo TPP, the government intends to significantly improve the competitiveness of the Donbassenergo company by increasing the efficiency of its boilers. It is planned to reduce the cost of conventional fuel by 30%, extend the service life of the unit to 20 years and bring the environmental performance of each unit up to the EU standards.
Government experts point out that the project of complete modernization of Starobeshevo TPP is the most environmentally friendly and innovative one in the power industry. The reconstruction of Starobeshevo TPP Unit 12 (whose equipment is worn by 70-90%) is based on the positive experience of the modernization of Unit 4 completed in 2011. Today, Unit 4 with its upgraded capacity of 215 MW, has the highest in Ukraine technical/economic and environmental parameters. It also won a national competition "Leader of Fuel and Energy Complex" in the category "environmental projects."
The reconstruction project of Starobeshevo TPP Unit 12 envisions restoration of the boiler, turbine, and electrical equipment. The upgraded design capacity of the power unit will be 210 MW, with an annual output of heat energy of 5.3 Gcal.
