Ukraine needs to develop an appropriate protection of domestic engineering as a free trade area with the European Union can destroy this industry in the next 4-5 years, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said, opening the government’s meeting, ForUm correspondent reports.
"In the case of work with the FTA almost all Ukrainian engineering can be destroyed in 4-5 years due to unfavorable terms of trade. Implementation of standards in this industry requires huge resources and modernization of production during several years. But nobody in the EU is going to buy Ukrainian locomotives, wagons, cars, cranes and compressors. Where should we take money for modernization?" Azarov asked.
The Premier is convinced that no one will wait till Ukraine improves its economy. "The Ukrainian government should work out a protection against negative development of events," Azarov summed up.
