On the night of January 10th/11th, during the events near Svyatoshyno district police department, the law enforcement officers acted within the law, PR department of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine reports.
"According to the law of Ukraine "On police forces", law enforcement officers have the right to apply force, impact munition and firearms in case and order, stipulated by the current Law," the statement reads.
In particular, the article 13 authorizes to apply force to prevent a crime or resistance to legal police actions, while the article 14 authorizes using impact munition and firearms for protection of citizens or self-protection, as well as for prevention of mass disorders or mass public order disturbance.
The department also reminded that following mass media reports the public prosecution office opened criminal proceedings.
