Belarus has introduced a ban on pork imports from Luhansk region in connection with an outbreak of African swine fever (ASF).

"The department of veterinary and food control of the Agriculture and Food Ministry of Belarus reported that, according to the International Epizootic Bureau, a case of susceptible animals' catching African swine fever was recorded in Luhansk region. The pathological material was selected from a fallen wild boar," reads a statement by the department posted on the Web site of the authority, Interfax-Ukraine informed.

The department noted the need to "take additional control measures to ensure the biological protection of large pig farms of all forms of ownership."

The ASF virus was detected in Luhansk region on the border with Russia.
