In order to improve the safety at mines, the government has decided to establish a new institution "Center for comprehensive safety of coal industry." The appropriate decree was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on Dec. 25, 2013, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.

The institution will be subordinated to the State Service of Mining Supervision and Industrial Safety of Ukraine (Gosgorpromnadzor).

According to government experts, the goal of the Center is to improve worker safety at mining enterprises. Its functions will include monitoring of mining air and mining equipment, prevention of dangerous situations through automated forecasting.

To this end, the Center will develop and introduce an integrated coal industry database on the basis of automated telecommunications systems of dispatch and active interfaces with the Unified telecommunication system of monitoring and automated control of mining machines and technological complexes (UTAS).

UTAS was developed in 2012 to improve mine safety. At the moment, the System is actively introduced at Ukrainian mines. UTAS costs 220 million UAH.
