The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine has taken note of a resolution of the U.S. Senate adopted on January 7 and has noted that the senators' call for the Ukrainian authorities to refrain from the use of force and to maintain a national reconciliation dialogue is fully consistent with the approach of the government of Ukraine, the Foreign Ministry's press service reported.

"The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine sees the adoption of this resolution as an expression of support for the European choice of our country and its democratic development. The Ukrainian government remains committed to its strategic policy towards European integration and the continuation of democratic reforms," reads a statement, Interfax-Ukraine informed.

The Foreign Ministry said the appeal of the U.S. Senate to all sides of the political process in Ukraine to refrain from the use of force and to maintain a national reconciliation dialogue is fully consistent with the approach of the government of Ukraine.

"It is the kind of dialogue for which Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych is calling, in order to ensure stability in the country," the Ministry said, adding that the President condemned the use of force by both law enforcement agencies and individual protesters.

As reported, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution calling on the Ukrainian authorities to refrain from using force against peaceful protesters and pointed to the possible consideration of sanctions in the event of further violence.
