The Government of Ukraine decided to suspend signing of the Association Agreement with the EU due to changes in foreign economic environment and complications of trade and economic relations with Russia, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Kostyantyn Hryshchenko told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.

"The main issue was the dynamics of the global and Ukrainian economy. As President already noted, there were some changes for the worse. Changes in foreign economic conditions environment occurred only at the end of the year and we could not ignore that. We also hoped that Russia's position, declared on paper, that each state shall decide on joining any alliance by itself would be implemented in our trade and economic relations as well," he said.

According to him, the need to make adjustments to the agreement with the EU was based on the facts and the real situation. "After the agreement with Russia is reached, we have enough funds to strengthen the economy of Ukraine and continue European integration. Now we can rely on our own strength," Hryshchenko believes.
