Oleksandr Vilkul, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister, has instructed to open the second part of the tunnel under the Poshtova Square in Kyiv. He made the announcement during a working meeting about construction of the highway interchange at Potova Square, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.

To date, the construction of the second stage of the traffic tunnel is being finalized, according to Anatoliy Holubchenko, Acting Chairman of the Kyiv City State Administration. Utilities and sand base under the pavement in the tunnel have been already laid, installation of storm water drain started. Road surfacing and lighting remain to commission the tunnel. 

Some 95% of domestic building materials, including metal, concrete products, etc. were used during construction of the project. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, it was a strong condition of the government.
"Import substitution, use of domestic building materials is a fundamental condition of the government. The infrastructure projects for public funds, as in this case, highway construction in the capital, help develop logistics of the city and create a comfortable and safe environment for people, as well as ensure development of the construction industry, manufacture of building materials in the country. In its turn it contributes to economic development and helps create jobs," Vilkul said. 

The commissioning of the second part of the tunnel will allow traffic on Naberezhna Kreschatitska and Naverezhne Shosse in both directions. This will increase the throughput from 85,000 to 110,000 cars daily.

Experts say reconstruction of this traffic interchange is the most important infrastructure project of the government aimed to develop logistics in the Ukrainian capital. The highway has been under construction with the governments support since 2010.
