Grain market logistics improve

Ukrainian government continues to strengthen measures to improve logistics on the grain market. This year it is especially important because the industry is heading for a significant place among the world's grain exporters. And there are all prerequisites for that. This year a record amount of grain was harvested - 63.6 million tons. Grain exports from Ukraine since the beginning of the current marketing year (July 2013 - June 2014) and as of Dec. 23 amounted to 17.58 million tons, which is up 27.7% year-on-year, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, in particular, 6.64 million tons of wheat (including 5.34 million tons of food), 2.02 million tons of barley and 8.8 million tons of maize were exported. In general, the Ministry estimates the potential of grain exports in the current MY to be 32.5 million tons.

"The world grain market largely depends on Ukraine. During this MY domestic farmers and traders will be able to deliver to the foreign markets over 30 million tons of grain. Such volumes will be achieved through an integrated approach to the issue of exports, as well as through smooth logistics," Mykola Prysyazhnyuk, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, said.

To improve logistics on the grain market, the Cabinet members discussed a number of measures to intensify efforts to reduce expenditure on grain exports in 2013/14 MY. In particular, the Antimonopoly Committee together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Security Service of Ukraine were instructed to take effective measures to prevent violations of antitrust laws in the export of grain. At the same time, Ministry of Agrarian Policy, Ministry of Infrastructure, State Agriculture Inspection, Ukrzaliznytsya and appropriate public authorities should not require approvals, permits and other documents that are not established by current legislation for the transportation of grain. At the same time, the important changes in the legal framework regulating the issues of transportation of grain were mentioned.
