Russia should create favorable conditions for life and work of Ukrainian citizens, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the meeting with his Ukrainian colleague Viktor Yanukovych.

Putin noted that according to official data, about 1.5 million citizens of Ukraine work in Russia. As for other estimates, - up to 5 million people. "This is a large number of people, who should have favorable conditions to live freely here, work, move across the border and to help their families," he said.

Yanukovych, speaking about the development of humanitarian cooperation between the two countries, said that the 200th anniversary of birth of Taras Shevchenko is marked in 2014. "We have a program, which, as I was told, you have considered and approved. Year 2014 is dedicated to the 200th anniversary of birth of Taras Shevchenko. He is the poet, who unites our nations," Yanukovych said.

Putin noted that are specific proposals for the development of cooperation in this field.
