The government intends to attract investments to the development of Ukrainian ports. To do this, the Cabinet will bring Ukrainian legislation in line with international standards. The announcement was made by Oleksandr Vilkul, Deputy Prime Minister, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine reports.

"To attract investment to the port industry, the government is bringing the domestic legislation in line with the international standards. In particular, it applies to unification of national legislation in order to clear the duties on maintenance and upgrade of hydraulic structures of strategic importance which are remaining in public ownership. After all, it is an essential component to attract to our ports investors who want to be sure that the current European and world standards on navigation safety and efficient handling of ships and cargo are met in the seaports of Ukraine," Vilkul said. 

Experts say a proactive effort is ongoing to bring the regulations of the Ministry of Infrastructure and subordinate entities in accordance with the Law of Ukraine "On sea ports of Ukraine." For example, currently the Regulation on Shipping Register is being updated.

Vladimir Kozak, Infrastructure Minister, in turn, informs that in accordance with the Law of Ukraine "On seaports of Ukraine," they have updated the Regulation on the Ministry of Infrastructure, which introduced the basic concept of "waterworks of water transport complex." It brings together different types and names of waterworks. Now it is necessary to update the Regulation on Shipping Register of Ukraine. In fact, according to the Minister, it will be a single standard for all documents.
