Ukraine and the EU will facilitate air traffic starting from summer of 2015, Oleksandr Vilkul, Deputy Prime Minister, has announced, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.

"Starting from summer of 2015, any European airline will be able to fly to any Ukrainian airport, as well as Ukrainian airlines will be able to fly to any European airport. This will create competition which will improve the quality and reduce the cost of air flights," Vilkul said.

Simplifying air traffic was made possible after Ukraine and the EU had initialed the agreement on Common Aviation Area at the summit of "Eastern Partnership" in Vilnius, on Nov. 28, 2013. This was the logical conclusion of negotiations on the Common Aviation Area, which began in Dec. 2007. Ukraine is obligated by 2015 to bring its legislation in conformity with the EU aviation requirements and standards which must be consistently applied in the field of safety, air traffic management, environmental safety, economic regulation, competition, and consumer protection.

The flow of airplane passengers and goods between Ukraine and the EU has been steadily growing over the past few years. Thus, the agreement should promote closer integration of Ukraine into the European aviation area and, accordingly, opening of new markets for domestic airlines.
