The Commercial Sea Port of Mykolayiv increased freight turnover by 26%, or 1.256 million tons of cargo. This is the biggest monthly turnover in the 200-year history of the port, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.

In November,  the following amounts of goods were processed: grain – 608,000 tons, coal – 98,000 tons, and metal – 297,000 tons. The turnover of the port was dominated by exports, which account for about 65% of the total volume, whereas  imports  accounted for 25%; and transit share for about 7%.

Government analysts say, the port of Mykolayiv is the oldest trading port in Ukraine, and, it was the third largest port in the Russian Empire (after St. Petersburg and Odessa) in terms of export trade before World War II in 1914.

Today Mykolayiv Sea Trading Port is the largest enterprise in the region, and one of the five largest sea ports (with the potential annual capacity of over 15 million tons) of the state.

The port is included on the list of enterprises that have a strategic importance for the economy of Ukraine. The basis of trade and transport capacity of the port is handling and shipping of Ukrainian grain and fertilizer abroad. The port capacity allows to ship for export up to 4.5 million tons of grain and about 4.7 million tons of mineral fertilizers.
