For nine months of 2013 more than 350 thousand Ukrainian families have received social assistance, minister for social policy Natalia Korolevska told a teleconference, ForUm's correspondent reports.

"For nine months more than 358 thousand families with total of 558 thousand children have received timely social assistance. 115 thousand families have been followed by the social case management service, and 52 thousand of them have been successfully deregistered, while for other families the work is in progress," she said.

According to the minister, social services also start working with older people and other categories of population, currently disadvantaged.

"Two thousand disabled and war veterans, eight thousand older people have been sent for treatment and rehabilitation to various healthcare establishments," she added.

Korolevska also underlined that social services must now focus on families, whose children might be taken to foster homes.
