Ukraine's Ministry of Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Communal Services has proposed allocating 3 billion UAH for the government programs that provide citizens with affordable housing in 2014, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.

Experts say the funds will help provide housing for 16,600 families and raise additional 2 billion UAH of credit and citizens’ cash.

According to analysts, to increase housing construction, the Ministry plans to build up promising land plots and renew suspended construction projects. So, 1,300 from 3,500 suspended construction projects were resumed in late 2013.

Experts say that next year, Kyivmiskbud plans to commission at least 500 apartments for social programs. If the demand grows, the company will be able to increase the number of social apartments.

The Cabinet regularly distributes funds for the five existing affordable housing programs. Some of them got more funds reallocated from the state program "Cheapening of mortgages for affordable housing for citizens in need of better housing conditions."

Also, experts note that 3,000 families have already used the state support in getting social housing since the beginning of 2013. This was made possible due to the social initiative of President Viktor Yanukovych "Affordable Housing."

To date, the government support helps the increasing number of families move in their own homes. The number of people participating in the state affordable housing programs grows by 1.5-2 times annually.  Due to government support 14,000 families became homeowners in 2010, including 3,600 persons who got their own homes in the first 9 months of 2013.
