Food fairs attract more consumers and farmers. Thus, from October to November, the fairs were greatly activated by the initiative of Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.

Since the beginning of 2013, Ukraine had held over 68,000 food fairs. During this time, Ukrainians purchased at fairs over 804 tons of agricultural products for nearly 7.3 billion UAH. In particular, in November only, the regions held over 9,000 food fairs, where produce for 1.3 billion UAH was sold.

The most of fairs were held in Kyiv, Dnepropetrovsk, Vinnitsa, Volyn, Sumy regions and Crimea, while Odessa, Ternopol, Vinnitsa, and Volyn regions lead in terms of sales.

"This year, farmers gathered a rich yield of vegetables and fruits, which can be bought at fairs by anyone. Also, meat, milk and other agricultural products are sold at them. Therefore, Ukrainians can buy produce directly from the farmer, without doubts about quality and without extra charges. Therefore, the Ministry actively promotes such events and tries to attract more farmers to them," Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Prisyazhnyuk said.

The concept of the fairs envisions an opportunity to purchase high-quality agricultural products directly from manufacturers, as products on those markets can be sold by farmers only, rather than middlemen.

"It is important for us that manufacturers, not brokers, would sell at the fairs... Therefore, in case of any violations, citizens may apply to Advisory Centre of Ministry of Agrarian Policy, where complaints will be responded as fast as possible," the minister said.
