The government has approved a resolution that reduces the funds needed to eliminate the consequences of fire at Vuglegirsk thermal power plant, from 128.338 million UAH to 124.861 million UAH, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine reports.

The reduction was made by the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry after obtaining an expert report prepared by the State Enterprise Ukrgosstroyekspertiza, which recommended to approve the project to conduct priority construction work on Vuglegirsk TPP at Svitlodarsk, Donetsk region.

The need for this arose after a fire in June of 2013, which, due to its scale was given the emergency status. Thus, the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry optimizes state budget expenditures to restore Vuglegirsk TPP.
Also,  the overhaul of the machine hall of Vuglegirsk TPP Stage 1 is financed by JSV Centrenergo.

Implementation of the government’s decree will solve the problem of financing the restoration of the main and auxiliary boiler and turbine units, namely: dismantlement and restoration of structures damaged during fire in the machine room, as well as automatic fire extinguishing systems and fire alarms.

Industry experts point out that Vuglegirsk TPP with a total design capacity of 3,600 MW is one of the largest producers of electricity in the southeastern region of Ukraine. Stage 1 units were put into operation in 1972-1973. After the fire, it is envisioned to restore  structures of machine hall, so the facility could be commissioned in the nearest future.
