Ukraine must integrate into community of European nations as an equal partner, which is respected, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych expressed such belief in his address to the Ukrainian people on the occasion of 22nd anniversary of the All-Ukrainian referendum to confirm the Act of Independence of the country.
According to the President, Ukraine has made its geopolitical choice.
"We are a European nation, and our path is determined historically," he stressed.
Yanukovych promised to do everything possible to speed up the process of Ukraine's rapprochement with the European Union, while preventing serious economic losses and deterioration of living standards.
The President recalled that on December 1, 1991, a manifestation of direct democracy took place in Ukraine, which showed the irreversibility of democratic changes in the young European country.
