Ukrainian agricultural sector would have more cons than pros if signed the Association Agreement with the European Union, agriculture and food industry minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk said in an interview with the Capital newspaper.

"Let me explain what happened. After the Cabinet approved the text of the agreement in September, our economic and political institutions analyzed the document and submitted a memorandum to the President. The Cabinet decided to suspend its decision and send it to the Council of National Security and Defence," he said.

The minister noted that having signed the free trade area with the EU the agricultural sector would get improved quality standards and duty-free imports of some types of agricultural products to European countries.

Prysiazhniuk noted that although the size of these quotas was negligible, but the Ukrainian products would have an opportunity to enter the European market.

According to him, there are also disadvantages of the Agreement: the convergence of economic, social and legislative initiatives.

Meanwhile, he suggested that the EU will soon offer a certain package with attractive conditions.
