Ukraine signed a production sharing agreement with Italian oil company Eni and French company Electricite de France (EDF) on production of hydrocarbons in the Black Sea shelf, the President’s press service informs.
Before the signing ceremony, the President stressed that the development of energy infrastructure is a strategic task.
"The development of energy infrastructure is a strategic task of Ukraine, and cooperation with your companies certainly opens up new possibilities for us," Yanukovych said.
"Improving energy security of Ukraine, as well as decrease, I would say, a pressure existing in the energy issues, ensuring energy supplies to the domestic market of Ukraine, and promotion of the economic development of Ukraine. These are the goals that we set for ourselves in working with you as partners," the President noted.
In turn, Giuseppe Tannoia thanked the President for assistance in the preparation of this initiative.
"We believe that the technologies and the experience that we have gained in these areas may be useful for Ukraine," he said.
