The decision to suspend negotiations on signing the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement was made to prevent social and economic failure and achieve more favorable terms for Ukraine and Ukrainian people. This was stated by Prime Minister Mykola Azarov at the Cabinet’s meeting, ForUm correspondent reports.

"This decision proceeds from the national interests of Ukraine. We can not sacrifice economic sovereignty. Current extremely adverse conditions of the Association might turn out a failure for both Ukraine and the EU. The economic situation, which finally formed on the eve of the signing, unfortunately, showed exactly those prospects," PM said.

Thereafter, Azarov added: "I declare with all responsibility that the negotiations on signing of the Agreement continue and work to bring Ukraine closer to the European standards will not stop for a single day. Our partners from the EU welcomed this position and officially announced the possibility of signing the association agreement in future".
