UZ has launched an ambitious program to provide housing for employees of the railway industry, which envisions to commission at least 100 apartments for each of the six Ukrainian railways in 2014, Sergei Bolobolin, CEO of UZ Korosten, Zhytomyr region, said at the ceremony where 30 families of railway workers received housing warrants in newly-constructed buildings, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.

The housing program, approved by the UZ Order in October 2013, envisions to build new homes and remodel existing buildings for housing by forces of six railways of Ukraine during 2013-2014. Experts say implementation of the order will improve housing conditions of workers, improve motivation and loyalty.

"Social issues have always been a priority for the railway industry. Today, in the context of declining freight traffic when the industry is facing an important challenge of upgrading fixed assets, locomotives, in the first place, we meet all obligations in terms of social protection of employees under collective agreements between companies and railways, as well as industry agreement between Ukrzaliznytsya and the union, and we intend to continue this effort. The Korosten railway junction workers received housing warrants for new apartments, workers of the industry in other towns will also settle in," Bolobolin said. 

Experts say the Housing Program is primarily aimed at supporting young professionals who are just starting their career with the company, and retired railway workers whom the industry cares for as well.

According to the UZ, it is planned to build 719 apartments in 14 towns in 2013-2014. Railway workers who live in Lviv, Lugansk, Znamenka, Kharkiv, Sinelnikovo will receive keys to new apartments.
