Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Vilkul attended the launching ceremony of the new processing unit at the South Mining and Processing Integrated Works. The new cyclic-flow technology unit was built to ensure a continuous transportation of ore at South works, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.

"For the development of the steel industry in the context of the global crisis,  the cost of production becomes a priority. Introduction of new technologies that increase efficiency and reduce labor cost of ore extraction at the industry enterprises, is one of the key factors of competitiveness of Ukrainian metallurgy. As well as the national economy as a whole, because mining and metallurgical sector accounts for 20% of the GDP of the country," Vilkul said.

Experts say construction of a new cyclic-flow line at the South works quarry will ensure a possibility of mining at depths over 300 meters. This technology offers significant prospects for increasing ore extraction and might help reduce the cost of transportation by 30-40%.

At the same time, it creates the prospects for further development and modernization of the works, promotes economic labor efficiency, as well as creates new jobs. Importantly, according to the South works plans, the savings will be used for further modernization of production facilities.

Government analysts recall that this technology has already been introduced at Pervomaysky quarry of the North works during construction of the  new Crushing Plant № 3. Experts clarify that it was the largest project not only at the enterprise, but throughout the mining industry in 2006.
