Azerbaijan does not intend to become an associate member of the European Union, deputy head of the Presidential Administration Novruz Mammadov stated.

"We have already notified the EU of that we can not accept the proposed Association Agreement. We want to prepare a document, which would more adequately meet the level of our relations and cooperation with the European Union," he said.

He noted that Baku proposed EU "to sign a partnership agreement taking into account the achieved level of cooperation".

"This agreement will reflect the level of bilateral cooperation and provide mutual respect and equality of the parties," the representative of the presidential administration said.

He rejected the allegation that Azerbaijan's refusal to become associate member is the result of pressure from Russia.
