The Cabinet of Ministers approved a draft intergovernmental Agreement between Ukraine and Russia on Early Notification of a Nuclear Accident and exchange of information in the field of radiation safety. The authority to sign the document is delegated to the head of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine reports.

According to government experts, implementation of this agreement will enhance safety in in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy, create the necessary framework for a rapid response in the event of a nuclear and radiation accidents or the threat of their occurrence in Ukraine and the Russian Federation.

The agreements provide a clear definition of the interaction between the competent authorities, as well as the procedure for the exchange of appropriate information.

The conclusion of such agreements has been recommended by decisions of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in accordance with the Convention on Early Notification of a Nuclear Accident, ratified by Ukraine on December 30, 1987.

A significant contribution of our country in the improvement of reliability of operating nuclear power plants is highly appreciated by the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO).
