A mourning procession in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Holodomor in Ukraine starts in Kyiv, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to preliminary data, 500-1.000 people will participate in the action.

Mainly young people and pensioners march in the procession. Some have brought their children. People are carrying national flags with mourning ribbons, flowers, wheat ears, clusters of snowball tree. The honored activists carry posters, reading messages to those Ukrainians, who in 20 years will mark the hundredth anniversary of the Holodomor.

Event participants emphasize that the action is organized exclusively by public activists without the support of political organizations.

The procession will march from the subway station "Arsenalna" to the national memorial to the Holodomor victims, where the service for the dead will be ministered, a moment of silence and action "Light a candle" will be observed. 

About 50 police officers keep the peace.
