Russia waits for the reaction of the EU leadership to the proposal for tripartite negotiations with the EU and Ukraine, deputy foreign minister of Russia Grigory Karasin said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier that Russia was ready for tripartite EU-Russia-Ukraine negotiations to address issues related to the possible signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement.

"It is supposed, that the statement made by the President of the Russian Federation should be followed by the official reaction of the European Union leadership," Karasin said.

When asked to comment on the statement of Lithuanian foreign minister Linas Linkevičius, expressing doubts about the possibility to involve the Russian Federation in the EU-Ukraine negotiations, Karasin said that Russia "should be guided by the official response of the EU to the proposal of the Russian President".
