Russia is ready to participate in tripartite negotiations to resolve issues related to the possible signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday.
In addition, Putin emphasized that Russia is not against the sovereign choice of Ukraine to integrate with Europe, but would totally oppose its entry into NATO.
"We are not against the sovereign choice of Ukraine, whatever it may be. If we were told that Ukraine joins NATO, then we would have been against that, as approaching of military bloc infrastructure to our borders is dangerous for us. Economic associations are safe from the point of view of the defense capacity of the country," Putin said.
He reminded said that the Russian Federation and Ukraine have the open market. If Ukraine opens its gates to the European Union, "we can not leave these gates with Ukraine as wide as they are today".
