Ukraine keeps preparing for the EU Association Agreement expected to be signed in late November. The government is primarily focused on addressing economic issues faced by the country, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.

The Ukrainian authorities are interested in restoring effective and mutually beneficial cooperation with the CIS market, as it is important for the economic development of the national economy, Prime Ministery Mykola said during his visit to St. Petersburg for meetings with the heads of governments from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

Azarov also stressed that it was "extremely important" to implement all provisions of the CIS Free Trade Agreement which affects the development of all its members.

Azarov stressed the importance of working out an agreement on free access to pipeline transportation. These agreements will enable Ukraine to receive gas from the Caspian region as well as from other energy sources using the infrastructure of Kazakhstan and Russia. This will diversify hydrocarbons supply to Ukraine and enhance local energy security.

Azarov also pointed out that it was important to develop an agreement on a phased reduction and elimination of export duties between the CIS. It is a topical issue for Ukraine. In the eight months of 2013, the trade turnover with the CIS countries exceeded 31.8 billion USD, accounting for 35.5% of the total foreign trade of Ukraine. The share of Ukrainian exports to the CIS countries exceeds 36% of total merchandise exports.

EU countries accounted for 26.8% of total exports of goods (according to data of the State Statistics for January - August) and 37.3% of imports in 2013.
