The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a law to toughen responsibility for driving while intoxicated. 260 deputies voted for this decision, ForUm correspondent reported.
Thus, the bill "On amendments to some legislative acts of Ukraine on increasing responsibility for driving while intoxicated" was adopted in the second reading and a basis.
The explanatory note to the draft stated that the bill introduces amendments to the articles of the Code of Administrative Offences, the Criminal Procedure Code and the Criminal Code of Ukraine concerning driving violation.
The bill stipulates to increase significantly the level of fines, deprivation of the right to drive vehicles up to five years with confiscation of the vehicle for driving while intoxicated and also establishes criminal liability for deliberate non-enforcement of the judicial decision on withdrawal of the right to drive vehicles.
The draft law provides the penalties for drunk driving from 400 to 450 minimum non-taxable incomes of citizens (from 6800 to 7650 hryvnias) or deprivation of the right to drive vehicles from three to four years.
