The State Enterprise Antonov, a leading Ukrainian developer and manufacturer of aircrafts, presented An-158, a regional passenger plane of new generation, at the International Aviation and Space Salon "Dubai Airshow-2013" (UAE), the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.

The An-158 presentation program includes several demonstration flights. Ukrainian delegation also planned a number of meetings and negotiations with representatives of airlines and leasing companies. It is expected that the Ukrainian development will be presented to senior management of Armed Forces and Civil Aviation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Experts say the An-158 (Ukrainian short-haul passenger plane) is based on An-148. The first flight took place on April 28, 2010. New An-158, designed to carry 99 passengers for up to 2,500 kilometers or 86 passengers for 3,100 km, can be manufactured in 12 options of mono-class and two-class cabin arrangements. The cruise speed of the aircraft is 850 km/h.

The aircraft is equipped with engine produced by the Motor Sich (Zaporozhe) company. By customer request, the plane can be equipped with alternative propulsion systems of western origin.

Originally, An-158 was developed as An-148-200 and, at a first glance, the new model is virtually identical to its predecessor. However, the fuselage of An-158 is longer by 1,700 mm (due to 2 additional sections); the number of passenger seats was increased to 9; and wing design was improved. Besides, producers could reduce the fuel consumption by 3% and direct operating costs – by 12%.
