Development of alternative energy-supply projects with foreign partners lets the government achieve the efficient results during negotiations with Russia's  Gazprom, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.

Eduard Stavitskiy, Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine, said that Ukraine and Russia reached a compromise on the issue of payment and purchase of gas. According to him, the negotiations resulted in win-win solutions that will enable the timely payments of Naftogaz Ukraine under the contract with Gazprom, in accordance with new schedule.

Stavitsky said the solutions meet the needs of Ukraine's partners: Russia, as gas supplier has a stake in the safe transit of natural gas via Ukrainian gas transportation system. The European Union is a key consumer of Russian gas.

Moreover, Naftogaz Ukraine buys from Gazprom in volume sufficient both for meeting the local demand and for timely processing of consumer applications in the EU. "We follow the schedule established for the current heating season: 45 to 90 million cubic meters of gas per day," Stavitskiy said.

To date, Ukraine's dependence Gazprom has been significantly decreased. According to Deputy Prime Minister Yuriy Boyko, Naftogaz purchases under the contract with Gazprom will amount to 11 billion cubic meters, instead of 40 billion cubic meters purchased three years ago.
