The government will proactively eliminate risks of corruption and interference of officials in business, according to Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, who presided over a Cabinet meeting on Nov. 13, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.

"It's a tough job to deconstruct the system of corruption and abuse of power that has been growing for decades, because our efforts meet resistance. For this reason, all risks of corruption and interference in business will  be eliminated with much more effort than before," Azarov noted.

Government analysts say that several international standards in the field of fighting corruption have been implemented facing the EU Association Agreement. In particular, the Law "On principles of prevention and combatting corruption in Ukraine," was passed after being positively reviewed by the EC Group of States Against Corruption.

The Cabinet has developed and secured the adoption of the Law № 224-VII "On amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine on implementation of the state anti-corruption policy." The act envisages restrictions for joint work of close persons, a special review for those who apply for the state or local government positions, the mechanism of the anti-corruption review for regulations or draft regulations.

Experts say the law provides for tougher criminal penalties for corruption offenses both for individuals and legal entities, introduction of external control over declarations of assets, income, expenses and liabilities of a financial nature, establishing liability for the promise of unlawful benefits and its acceptance.
