Experts not expect new flu strains this year

This year, experts do not expect major changes in situation related to the influenza epidemic, so vaccines available in the country will be able to protect people against disease, director of the Gromashevsky Institute of Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases Viktoriya Zadorozhna said during a press conference, ForUm correspondent reports.

"Predictions about seasonal flu remind me weather forecast. But, nevertheless, this year we do not expect such major changes of flu strains as last year. And those vaccines that are now commercially available for the prevention of influenza contain the expected epidemiologically relevant viruses and strains. If you truly do not want to get the flu, you should get vaccinated," Zadorozhna said.

According to the expert, it is impossible to speak now about the occurrence of some extraordinary situations.
