Increasing the use of energy-efficient technologies is one of the main priorities of the government’s regional policy. This was confirmed by the visit of Deputy Prime Minister Yuriy Boiko to Zhytomyr, where he reviewed the operation of the reconstructed boiler plant which provides hot water all year round for the Central City Hospital No. 2 and the Center of Mother and Child, the Information-Analytic Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.

To store thermal energy, the upgraded boiler plant uses electric boilers of domestic production instead of energy-intensive equipment, which previously worked on costly gas. This will significantly reduce energy consumption, almost by half.

"In the boiler plant, the old energy-intensive gas-fired boilers have been replaced with electric ones that are used at night when electric power is almost four times cheaper. Then throughout the day these boilers provide the whole hospital with hot water," Boiko said.

The implementation of such energy efficiency projects across the country will significantly reduce energy consumption at the national level. With the saved money, local authorities will be able to fund other social projects, thereby improving the living conditions of citizens. The introduction of energy efficient technologies will provide stable tariffs for housing and utility services for people.

The experience of the European countries shows that the integration of energy-saving technology pays off in 5-7 years.

The activities undertaken in preparation for the implementation of the state program of the modernization of district heating systems have allowed the municipal thermal power engineering companies during 2010 -2013 to reduce gas consumption by 10%, from 11.1 billion cubic meters to 10 billion cubic meters. At the end of 2013, this reduction should add another 5 %.
