From January to October 2013, production volumes by industry leaders in Dnipropetrovsk region increased steadily. Iron and steel enterprises jacked up steel production by 7.1%, year-on-year to reach 9.6 million tons in absolute terms. Last year's results for iron ore extraction are also exceeded by 9.4% and amount to 8.2 million tons for the first ten months of 2013, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.

The findings are based on the operational statistics of the industrial production and economic union Metallurgprom.

The figures show growth of rolled products, concentrate, and agglomerate production of the iron and steel companies of Dnipropetrovsk region. In the 10 months of 2013, almost 2 million tons of agglomerate (by 16.6% more than last year) were produced, the production of rolled and semi-finished products reached 8.4 million tons (103.1% year-on-year), and of iron-ore concentrate – 46.7 million tons (102.6%).
Such good results, according to industry experts, have been made possible thanks to the effective management of the metallurgical enterprises.

Experts say projects that raise the efficiency of manufacturing and other business processes are more important than increase of steel production under the current difficult and volatile economic conditions globally and in Ukraine. In addition, one of the priorities for the metallurgical industry at both the regional and the national level is to increase its competitiveness by reducing production costs along with improvement of the product quality.

Cost reductions at Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises are provided for by the introduction of the up-to-date energy and resource-saving technologies and  improvements in energy efficiency during production. In addition, home manufacturers pay great attention to environmental protection and rational use of natural resources.
