The Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry expects insufficient sowing of winter crops in 2014, policy and food minister of Ukraine Mykola Prysiazhniuk told journalists, ForUm correspondent reports.

"Today, we don’t sow 400 thousand hectares, 350 hectares of them - winter wheat," he said.

According to the minister, the sowing of winter crops is almost over. "It will continue in the southern regions of the country for a few days," he said.

Prysiazhniuk said that the farmers will sow other areas in the spring, mainly with maize and barley.

The minister predicts an increase in land sown with corn by 0.5 million hectares up to 5.5 million hectares in 2014.
