For the duration of the contract signed by former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, the "Naftogaz of Ukraine" has reduced the gas volume purchased from the Russian "Gazprom" four-fold. This was announced by vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Yuri Boiko at a briefing in the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, ForUm correspondent reports.

"We have opened the markets for private companies - both western and eastern - and thereby reduced gas purchases from "Gazprom" under the contract concluded by Tymoshenko. We have cut gas purchases under this contract four-fold," vice Prime Minister said.

Boiko added that such cuts are extremely important for Ukraine. "The larger volumes of gas we buy under the contract, the greater losses our economy bear," he concluded.
