The law does not prohibit citizens with dual citizenship from running for the people's deputies of Ukraine, chairman of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine Mykhailo Okhendovsky said.
"Dual citizenship is not banned in Ukraine. In fact, Ukraine does not recognize dual citizenship, which means that our state does not recognize the legal consequences of the acquisition of citizenship of another state by a Ukrainian national," he explained.
The chairman of the Central Election Commission recalled that at the previous parliamentary and local elections there were attempts to challenge in the courts the registration of candidates, who had dual citizenship, but ultimately the higher courts recognized such registration was legal.
