Social protection of veterans of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 remains indisputable priority of state policy, the President emphasized.

"We are in eternal debt to those who sacrificed their life and health for the sake of peaceful and happy future. That's why social protection of veterans remains indisputable priority of state policy," the Head of State noted at the celebrations on the occasion of the 70thanniversary of Kyiv liberation from fascist invaders.

Viktor Yanukovych stressed that despite world economic crisis, the government had managed to increase average pension for veterans1.5 times. Also, the pension for the family members of the deceased disabled veterans has been increased by more than 700 UAH. "A good tradition is payment of financial assistance to the veterans on the occasion of the Victory Day. We have increased this assistance 4.5 times," the Head of State said.

The Head of State noted that in 2010, the program on the provision of apartments to disabled veterans of the Great Patriotic War had been initiated. Due to the given program, more than 800 families have already received housing.

Viktor Yanukovych reminded that in June 2013, he had signed the law on first-priority free provision of sanatorium-resort treatment to disabled veterans. "Unfortunately, in previous years these programs were not successful. Last year, only a third from the 81 thousand veterans managed to receive sanatorium-resort treatment," he said.

The President expressed confidence that the new law would change the situation for the better because disabled veterans had received the special right to free sanatorium-resort treatment with compensation of the cost of travel. Moreover, disabled veterans will be able to receive financial compensation instead of treatment without additional documents or special medical examinations.
