On the day of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Kyiv from the Nazi invaders, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and veterans paid tribute to the fallen in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, the President’s press service informs.

The celebrations were also attended by the former presidents of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk, Leonid Kuchma and Viktor Yushchenko, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, Verkhovna Rada chairman Volodymyr Rybak, chairman of the Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Popov, chairman of the Kyiv Regional State Administration Anatoliy Prysiazhniuk , the members of the Cabinet of Ministers, the city residents.

The President laid a wreath to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Park of Eternal Glory. This was followed by a moment of silence. The military band performed the national anthem of Ukraine, and volleys were discharged in honor of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Kyiv.

Before the ceremony, Viktor Yanukovych talked to the veterans, who came to Kyiv from all the hero-cities of the former USSR. The President congratulated them on the occasion of the liberation of the Ukrainian capital. Participants of the event walked along the Alley of Military Glory.
