Tourism industry experts say foreign tourists and travel agencies have taken another look Ukraine. Particularly strong tourism growth is evident in recent years. This was largely achieved due to the success of the Euro-2012 football championship, experts say, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine informs.
The tourism industry is growing globally increasing tourism revenues, accordingly. Despite the global financial crisis, the number of travelers continues to increase. Travelling allows them to understand the world and themselves better. Tourists are looking for new experiences, experts say. Ukraine, a nation endowed with a rich historical heritage, unique and diverse climatic conditions, is a destination of interest to tourists.
Experts note a sustainable positive trend in increasing the number of cruise ship calls at Ukrainian ports. At the same time they say that this positive trend is held back by the fact that today only Odessa port can receive them with a proper quality. It can accommodate three large cruise liners at the same time.
Ports cities Yalta and Sevastopol are also increasingly attractive destinations. World cruise companies are increasing the number of activities involving cruise ships calls at these ports. They are interested in the development of these trends, but currently they cannot be located there with a proper quality.
In this regard, experts especially emphasize the need for developing the countries infrastructure.
The number of foreign citizens visiting Ukraine over the last 3 years has increased by over 1.1 million and totaled 24.6 million persons annually. The contribution of tourism to GDP is only 2.2%.
The Ministry of Revenue and Duties reports the volume of the payments for tourism in Ukraine in January-August 2013 increased 10% year-on-year, to 26.1 million USD.
