President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych congratulated the citizens of Kyiv on the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the capital of Ukraine from the fascist invaders, the President’s press office informs.

"In the grand battle for the Dnipro River in autumn of 1943, at the cost of many human lives, the crucial victory was achieved, which finally cemented fracture in the World War II and accelerated the defeat of the Nazi Germany and its allies," the congratulations of Yanukovych say.

"Today we bow our heads before the blessed memory of the dead, bow low to the heroes who, having survived the fighting, resurrected the ancient Kyiv from the ashes, laid the solid foundation of a modern European city," he said.

Yanukovych expressed his boundless gratitude to veterans and wished good health for years to come, courage and prosperity.
