Russian Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov believes that the recent statements by Russia on move to advance payment for Russian gas are an attempt to focus Ukraine’s attention on the need to fulfill the conditions of the existing contract.
According to him, such statements "are intended to remind colleagues that reciprocal payments and system of obligations fit in a single contract."
"It seems to me that this was the goal - to focus on this problem at the political level, and at the level of economic entities. And this, in my opinion, has been done in a fairly adequate form," the diplomat said.
He also expressed the hope that in the near future the parties will find a solution to this problem, although he admitted that while the parties are not close to that. "At the moment there is no indication that we are close to solving the problem, although the negotiations continue," Zurabov said.
